St. Marks

Here in Ireland I lead my peers on a tour today here at St. Marks church which was formerly C. S. Lewis's church. I explained the origin of the church in October of 1873 by William Butterfield. I explain the importance of the tall pillars arches and ceillings of that era. Also C.S. Lewis' s family also dedicated a stain glass window on the right side of the church. Hadden Willson also explained to our group that Mr. Lewis used to sit in the fifth or sixth row of the church.

Today we woke up and had Dr. Hadden Wilson come speak to us about C.s Lewis’s upbringing and accomplishes. He informed us of Lewis’s church and the history behind its building. We also were informed about how throughout his life he was raised Anglican Christian and after his mothers death started doubting and was tutored in schooling by an atheist and became an advocate for it.

C.S. Lewis Trail

We started off our day in the Library with Dr. Haddon Wilson teaching us about the life of C.S. Lewis. Lewis was born and raised in Belfast, and Dr. Wilson prepared us for our tour. After lunch we loaded the bus and set out to see all the sights that Dr. Wilson had told us of. Our first stop was a statue of the wardrobe in C.S. Lewis’ novels. I really enjoyed seeing this life size statue. The sculpture features Digory Kirke peering into the wardrobe, and on the back of the wardrobe is the head of a lion and a letter that Lewis wrote to a young girl explaining the death and resurrection of Aslan. Although I’ve always known that Lewis’ novels depicted Christianity in a fictional way, I found it really interesting to read this letter and see how he intended his novels to parallel to the Bible.

Sunday Morning With Jack

Any Christian that has taken a religion course or sought a book that would help them grow in their faith no doubt has read or heard of the writings of C.S. Lewis. While Lewis has long past his writings and thoughts on the Christian faith are well known throughout the entire world. He is undoubtedly one of the greatest Christian thinkers of our time. Yesterday, our students got to experience something that not many other Christians and fans of C.S. Lewis will get to experience.
