Heart Transformation | Caleb Gauntt
What a week it has been. I have been diving into an incredible book called Radical, by David Platt, and is it rocking my world! It’s showing me what it means to really follow Jesus and what He truly wants from us. In class we have been diving into one of our 7 pillars, Heart Transformation. What an incredible thing to hear in a time where my life is changing more and more every day.
To sum up what I have learned this week, let me start with a simple sentence that I have never fully understood. Jesus DIED for us so that we may LIVE for Him. He didn’t die so that we could live for ourselves, get a good job, a big house, and all the happiness we can achieve here on earth. NO! He died for us so that we would live for Him. I made the mistake my whole life of disregarding that. I was always under the impression that Jesus wanted me to “be happy,” to be comfortable, to be satisfied here on earth, and that’s not at all what He wants!! He wants our hearts! He wants to give us a purpose! He wants us to live radically for His sake and for His glory! You see, this life we were given is not about us. It’s about our Lord and savior. We are wasting our time if we don't use everyday to bring glory to Him. God gave us time for a reason and wants us to use it for his sake! Now how does this lead into the second thing I mentioned, Heart Transformation?
Romans 12:2 says,
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
In order to glorify His name, we have to have our hearts transformed so that we do not conform to the world. Jesus wants your heart! If you don’t believe that, then you don’t know who He is. He is a loving savior who died so that He could own your heart. And He wants to clean it up for you. Think about this... if you need open heart surgery, do you try and do the heart surgery on yourself? Absolutely not! You let the heart surgeon do his job! Right? Jesus is our heart surgeon. We cannot expect to be more like Jesus on our own. Through Him and ONLY Him can we be transformed.
“...For apart from me, you can do NOTHING.”
Do you guys get my point? You can try as hard as you want to do things on own, to stop sinning on your own by slapping your wrist whenever you do sin; you can try as much as you want to save your marriage on your own, to destroy addictions on your own, to save your soul on your own, OR you can let the heart surgeon do what He does best.
“I am the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE. No one comes to the father except through me.”
Look at it like the butterfly. (By the way, what a beautiful creature.) When the caterpillar surrounds itself in its cocoon, it begins a process of metamorphosis, or TRANSFORMATION, into a completely new being. God wants to do that to us. He wants to take our hearts and transform us into completely different beings. Being that have life and know His will and are SAVED! That’s why we give up our lives to him. That’s why we put EVERYTHING that we think we can do on our own in God’s hands saying, “Lord, use me however you want to. Transform my heart and make me a new person.” Then, trust the process. Metamorphosis takes time. The caterpillar does not become a butterfly overnight. It takes time, but we continue to trust God and let His Word and His Spirit transform us. I promise you, it leads to a better life. I’m beginning the process right now and God is already showing me that He hasn’t even scratched the surface with me yet. He is going to use me in the most amazing ways. And I am overjoyed that I get that blessing! And I’m going to do everything I can to live in a way that reflects the power of faith in Jesus Christ. And I encourage you to do that same.
I love you guys. Send me any prayer requests or questions!
Take a look at what our students were up to this week!
Adam Donyes spoke on the importance of a complete heart transformation- not just behavior modification- as a result of the gospel. We encourage discussion among students, so one session was spent in groups talking about what had been most impactful about the heart transformation lessons!
The students went on a field trip to Branson's Butterfly Palace to see and learn about a caterpillar's transformation into a butterfly!
