This morning came early, but the Link Year staff and the Lakeside Manor continued their excellence and grandeur. The staff woke us ladies and gents from our slumber bright and early. So the students could enjoy one last morning of class with Billy Stevenson.Billy Stevenson is the University International Studies Director at John Brown University whom has poured into the Link Year student’s for this short time period. Stevenson has an remarkable testimony, you could further question your students on his story. After hearing his testimony and a few other life stories he talked to us student about Ireland’s economy. In which, they have three major industries in their economy; agriculture, ship making and linen which is closely followed by tourism.
It came to a surprise to many as we found out that the Titanic was originated in Belfast, Ireland. The reason this truth is surprising is due to most reasonable assumption that it sailed from London so it must have been built near there. The building of the Titanic took over two years and employed over 15,000 Irishman. But, enough of the boring stuff let’s get to what the students did today. After departing the Lakeside Manor, student of the Link Year went just a few miles south to the ship yard where the Titanic was built. It still stands next to the shores and pump house. Dir. Billy Stevenson gave a little history and some of the strapping young lads tried to lift a chain used to anchor the titanic when it was in the process of being built. After that they departed to Victoria’s square where many students shopped and then ate lunch. At around one in the afternoon the students left Victoria square and headed to the Odyssey movie plex. At the movie plex the students saw the movie ‘Parental Guidance’. Overall today was a pretty awesome day but then again. When isn’t a day awesome at Link Year.
